Plaza Jojo Correa is an important crossing point in our city. Thousands of people cross this plaza each day, from locals to tourists from all over the world. I wanted to paint something that could make some kind of difference in each people’s lives that would take time, stop and absorb this painting. I wanted to paint something that represent the beauty and purity of our awesome island. And what better than this majestic bird to do just that. The Hawk is a symbol of guardianship and visionary power, something we all could use a bit of in this day and age.

I also wanted to pair this painting with an uplifting and emotional poem by a local author. A poem that would give anyone reading it a boost of hope, courage and pride. By chance or coincidence (although I do not believe in neither) I searched and found through one of my contacts this amazingly beautiful poem by a local young artist who is no longer with us physically but will be with us forever through the work he left behind, Hemayel Martina. This poem describes exactly the feeling I want to communicate and I am very proud to be able to share this poem with the rest of Curaçao and the world. This bird our ‘Partawela’, represents all “…voices from this paradise…” (“…kiraturanan dje paraiso aki…”).
The ‘strange’ letter font I created is inspired by the Caiquetio Indian cave paintings of our ABC islands. A dedication to our islands very first artists.

I’ve you know more information contact me and i will update it.
